Independence Day Celebration

This past weekend I had the privilege of being invited to Governor Scott Walker’s Independence Day Celebration. This was the sixth annual event, and continues to be a tradition that celebrates our history, patriotism and independence. The celebration is not to promote politics and ideology, but rather an opportunity to acknowledge American pride. The atmosphere of the barbecue was light and festive, and was held at the governor’s executive residence which has been home to Wisconsin governors since 1928. There were live music performances by the Eddie Butts band and plenty of food and drinks to go around. I appreciated the opportunity I had not only to catch up with past co-workers and friends, but also to network and make new ones. I hope to attend the event in the future as it is a reminder that regardless of your ideology, political party identification, values, beliefs, demographics and the like, each and every citizen should make it a priority to get involved.

Waseda Farms

Congratulations to Waseda Farms on earning our Business of the Week! This certified organic farm and market was founded in 2008 and introduced to De Pere in April 2014. We got the chance to talk to Waseda Farms president Matt Lutsey to learn more about the Waseda Farms team and their market. Waseda Farms offers high quality certified organic grass-fed Black Angus beef, pork, chicken, and eggs. Their products are featured in over 40 restaurants and retail locations. Waseda farms is Northeastern Wisconsin’s only local and organic focused market and deli, featuring products from over 100 local farms, artisans and producers. Produce is not the only local aspect of the business: Waseda Farms gives back to the community every day. Their Save a Bag and You Buy We Give programs, non-profit donations, and annual scholarships are just a few ways Waseda Farms gives back. This year the family – owned business donated over $30,000 to local non-profits.

“De Pere is a close-knit community that continues to grow.”

When we asked Matt “Why De Pere?” he told us the community of like-minded individuals and network of small businesses that work together and support one another are reasons why Waseda Farms is proud to call De Pere home.

New Member Spotlight: IKOR

This week we welcome IKOR to the De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce! IKOR is a healthcare and financial advocacy service provider for seniors and clients with special needs. Managing Director and Certified Senior Advisor David Ferguson opened Wisconsin’s first IKOR office in De Pere this year. He previously practiced medicine in the Milwaukee area, and after 20 years of service he has chosen to apply his skills to advocate for those who may not be able to advocate for themselves. David also teaches courses at the Medical College of Wisconsin’s regional campus at St. Norbert College, where student’s bright minds keep David “on his toes”.

“Everyone is incredibly welcoming and friendly. I’m easily able to network with members of the community.”

David tells us that he likes De Pere’s small town feel. He says IKOR’s services remind us that it is important to keep our grandpa’s and grandma’s in mind. What sets IKOR apart is that they work directly for the client on both the healthcare and financial fronts. IKOR may be new to Wisconsin, but will continue to grow throughout the state. They are expecting to open their doors to the Milwaukee area within the year. Find out more about what IKOR can do for you here.

New Member Spotlight: The Game Capital

The Game Capital is a hobby and game store founded by partners Hilary and Jeff Wiza. Offering a variety of products from Funko figures to Pokémon playing cards, their newest location opened its doors on May 20th.
The two plan to hold regularly scheduled events for gamers in the community. Although this is the first time The Game Capital is selling their products storefront, they have made plenty of sales through Amazon, eBay and their own website.
The Wiza’s success started while Jeff was in college, selling his Pokémon playing cards online. From there the business took off. A few years down the road Jeff was joined by Hilary: first as his spouse, then as his partner.
The two are looking for part time help at The Game Capital. Please send inquiries and resumes to

Liberty Mutual Insurance

This week we recognize Liberty Mutual as our business of the week!
