This past weekend I had the privilege of being invited to Governor Scott Walker’s Independence Day Celebration. This was the sixth annual event, and continues to be a tradition that celebrates our history, patriotism and independence. The celebration is not to promote politics and ideology, but rather an opportunity to acknowledge American pride. The atmosphere of the barbecue was light and festive, and was held at the governor’s executive residence which has been home to Wisconsin governors since 1928. There were live music performances by the Eddie Butts band and plenty of food and drinks to go around. I appreciated the opportunity I had not only to catch up with past co-workers and friends, but also to network and make new ones. I hope to attend the event in the future as it is a reminder that regardless of your ideology, political party identification, values, beliefs, demographics and the like, each and every citizen should make it a priority to get involved.
