De Pere Fire Relief Fund
Questions and Answers
May 7, 2019
On April 24, 2019, an historic building collapsed during a massive fire on De Pere’s east side. Definitely De Pere, in consultation with the City of De Pere and Brown County United Way, has established a fire relief fund. The purpose of this fund is to assist individuals and businesses affected by the fire with their immediate unmet needs. Eligible applicants for assistance include residential and business tenants of 100 and 106 Broadway.
There is a significant and urgent need for fire victim assistance. Immediately following the fire, Definitely De Pere began outreach to the fire victims to gather their personal stories and offer support. This process is ongoing and continues to reveal information on significant gaps in what insurances will cover and the actual monetary costs incurred by apartment residents and business owners. Some victims have no fire insurance coverage.
The apartments and businesses located at these addresses experienced losses estimated to be as much as $1,000,000. The gap is estimated to be close to half that amount. To date, $22,121 has been raised for the De Pere Fire Relief Fund. Additional donations to the fund are welcomed and encouraged.
There are various ways in which individuals, businesses and foundations may donate to the fund:
- Online: https://definitelydepere.org/donations/de-pere-fire-relief-fund/
- In-person at any Nicolet National Bank location
- By mail to Definitely De Pere, 131 N Broadway, Ste D, De Pere 54115
Checks should be made out to De Pere Fire Relief Fund
Donations will be accepted through May 24th, with 100% of every contribution going directly to fire victims.
Information on how to apply for assistance through the fund will be publicly available by May 27th. Pending available dollars, it is anticipated that the fund will help compensate victims for losses not covered by personal or business insurances such as:
- Personal care items
- Clothing and furniture
- Household supplies
- Medical prescriptions and supplies
- Business-related capital expenditures
