Historic Preservation Tax Credits for Income-Producing Historic Buildings

Federal Historic Preservation Credit: This program returns 20 percent of the cost of rehabilitating historic buildings to owners as a direct reduction in their federal income taxes.

Wisconsin Supplemental Historic Preservation Credit: This program returns an additional 20 percent of the cost of rehabilitation to owners as a discount on their Wisconsin state income taxes. Owners that qualify for the Federal Historic Preservation Credit automatically qualify for the Wisconsin supplement if they get NPS approval before they begin any work.

External funding is essential for many successful preservation related projects. This database can help identify private and public sources of funding assistance for projects related to the documentation and preservation of Wisconsin’s historic places. Assistance types include grants, low-cost loans and tax credit programs. There are funding programs administered by federal, state and local agencies, as well as by private organizations. Eligibility, application requirements and level of competition vary according to the goals of each grantmaker.

Revolving Loan Fund

The City of De Pere has a revolving fund for businesses that seek to create new jobs.
The application is HERE and the manual for the RLF is HERE.

The Brown County Planning Commission administers the Brown County Economic Development Revolving Loan Fund Program for businesses seeking reduced interest loans for a business start up or expansion that will result in job creation or retention opportunities in Brown County. The program manual includes program guidelines, application procedures, forms and a list of required application materials for a loan request.

Tax Incremental Financing Districts (TIF’s or TID’s)

Within 4 districts in the City of De Pere, there are differing levels of funding available for projects that increase the value of buildings within the district.
