Any business, professional, or individual with an interest in the De Pere area economy and community can join the De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce. You do not need to be physically located in De Pere — roughly half of the chamber's 290+ member businesses are located outside De Pere proper, across Brown County and the greater Green Bay area. Sole proprietors, LLCs, corporations, nonprofits, and individual professionals are all eligible. Individual membership starts at $100/year (Citizen tier); business memberships start at $300/year (Classic tier, businesses under 25 employees).
Are chamber membership dues tax-deductible?
Chamber membership dues are generally deductible as an ordinary and necessary business expense under IRS Section 162 — the same way you'd deduct other professional association dues. They are not deductible as a charitable donation, because the De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)(6) membership organization, not a charity. The chamber provides an annual Section 6033(e) disclosure identifying any portion of dues allocated to lobbying activities, which is not deductible. Consult your tax advisor for your specific situation. Do I need to be located in De Pere to join?
No. Membership in the De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce is open to businesses and individuals across Brown County and the greater Green Bay region. Roughly half of the chamber's current 290+ member businesses are located outside the city of De Pere proper — in surrounding communities that share De Pere's workforce, customer base, and regional economy. If your business serves De Pere customers, employs De Pere residents, or operates anywhere in the 11 communities the chamber serves, you're eligible to join.
What is the difference between the chamber and the Foundation?
They are two separate legal entities with two different purposes. The De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)(6) membership organization — it advocates for the business community, runs networking events, provides member visibility services, and maintains the member directory. Membership dues paid to the chamber are a business expense, not a charitable donation. The De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation (DPACCF) is a separate 501(c)(3) charitable organization — it funds programs investing in youth, veterans, women in business, community faith, and civic connection. Donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible as charitable contributions. The two organizations are affiliated but financially and legally distinct. Never comingle them when filing taxes or making decisions about deductibility.
How do I get listed in the member directory?
When you join the De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce at any tier, your business is listed in the member directory — the searchable database used by residents, visitors, and other businesses across the region to find local companies. Your listing goes live after your membership application is processed and your new-member orientation is complete. To optimize your listing with photos, categories, and a business description, log in to the member portal at connect.deperechamber.org after joining. The directory is the most practical day-one benefit of membership.
Do I have to be a member to join a committee?
Chamber committees are open at every membership level — the Ambassador Committee, Events Committee, Youth Committee, Advocacy Committee and Foundation Committee all welcome members from any tier, and you don't need previous committee experience to take a seat.
